Italian Cuisine Week in Athens: culinary traditions and innovations

Numerous events have been organised to celebrate and promote our Country’s food culture and its regional traditions, highlighting the benefits of the Mediterranean Diet. The Region of Calabria will take centre stage at an evening organised by the Italian Embassy in Athens in cooperation with the Italian-Greek Chamber of Commerce at which Caterina Ceraudo, Calabria-born Italian Michelin-star winning chef, will “educate” participants on the ancient and contemporary flavours of the Magna Graecia by making an innovative use of the high-quality products typical of her region. On 5 December, the Kypseli Municipal Market will paint a night of street food in the colours of the Italian flag to promote typical Italian “takeaway” recipes. Thanks to Street Food Italia 2019, an event organised by the Italian-Greek Chamber of Commerce in Thessaloniki in partnership with the Municipal Authorities, the historical centre of Thessaloniki will be swamped in the odours and colours of a rich variety of Italian foods and wines. Lastly, on 22 November, the Italian Cultural Institute in Athens, in cooperation with the Athens Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society, will host a lecture on the culinary history from Ancient Greece to the Renaissance, which will be followed by a tasting of regional specialties.
