Minister Terzi firmly condemns suicide bombing in Yemen

“We firmly condemn this act of violence, which stirs resentment and horror and our deep condolences for the victims”. With these words Minister for Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi commented on the news of a suicide bombing in Yemen that resulted in dozens of casualties.

“Italy stands strongly behind the political and institutional transition taking place in Yemen within a framework of national dialogue”, Terzi continued, “and will not fail to lend its support to the Yemeni government’s efforts to counter extremist forces. The terrorists”, Minister Terzi underscored, “seek with this brutal use of force to boycott a process of consolidation that, instead, we are convinced will lead to elections in 2014 in Yemen, and set a positive example for the entire region”.

“We shall continue to do our part”, Terzi concluded, “contributing actively to the Friends of Yemen Group, which plans to meet in Riyadh in early September, and by strengthening assistance security, coastal patrol and justice cooperation programmes already under way for some time now”.
