Nepal earthquake: Crisis Unit continues efforts to repatriate Italians

Efforts continue by the Farnesina Crisis Unit to repatriate Italian nationals by any means possible, including military ones, thanks to the collaboration of the Interforces Operational Command, and commercial flights out of Kathmandu.

The first group are expected to arrive on a commercial flight to Milan in the early hours of tomorrow; another two flights are slated to leave the Nepalese capital tomorrow for Abu Dhabi, to then proceed to Milan and Rome in accordance with the needs of the passengers.

The Nepalese authorities have just authorised a C130 to land at Kathmandu airport that had been waiting since yesterday in New Delhi. The plane will leave the Indian capital with Ambassador of Italy to New Delhi Lorenzo Angeloni aboard, and take on the rest of the Italian nationals that have not found a seat on other civilian transport means. Another military plan has just left Pratica di Mare carrying Crisis Unit and Civil Defence personnel and materials to set up a medical outpost. The number of Italian nationals still to be contacted is now down to three.
