Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Paolo Gentiloni met today with the U.S. President’s Special Envoy for the Anti-Daesh Coalition General Allen. Their discussions included confirmation of Italy’s support for the results of the Paris ministerial meeting of the Coalition; the importance of inclusive political solutions both in Iraq and in Syria; and the centrality of Italy’s multidimensional contribution to the Coalition, particularly regarding Iraqi police training and countering Daesh financing.
Minister Gentiloni renewed Italy’s hope that the struggle against Daesh is pursued through a synergetic approach even beyond Syria and Iraq, and in Libya in particular.
As for Syria, Gentiloni underscored the importance of a political solution and of identifying a broadly representative political entity capable of stemming the advance of Daesh.
