On Friday, 3 May, the Ministry of the Interior (in Palazzo del Viminale) hosted the signing ceremony of the new two-year Technical Protocol on Opening Humanitarian Corridors 2019-2020. The Protocol renews the one signed in January 2017, extending its application to Jordan and Niger in addition to Ethiopia.
Within the framework of the activities promoted to resettle refugees, the 2019-2020 Protocol confirms the best practices promoted through this initiative whereby Italy has up to now welcomed almost 2,300 particularly vulnerable migrants thanks to the virtuous cooperation between the Italian Government and civil society organizations.
The Protocol was signed by representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and of the Interior, of the Comunità di Sant’Egidio and of the Italian Episcopal Conference. On behalf of the Foreign Ministry, the Protocol was signed by the Director General for Italians Abroad and Migration Policies, Luigi Vignali.
