“We are following with the greatest attention what is happening in Venezuela and wish to express our solidarity to all of our fellow countrymen that, because of the Country’s current political and economic crisis, are going through a very difficult time. To alleviate their distress, the General Directorate for Italians Abroad has adopted, upon my request, some extraordinary measures, including the granting of one million euro to help destitute Italians living in Venezuela. Moreover I have asked to substantially increase the staff working in our diplomatic and consular offices in Venezuela.” This is what the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, will say during a video conference scheduled to take place around 8:15 p.m. today at the Farnesina. Minister Alfano will be addressing members and representatives of the Italian community (CGIE, COMITES, employers’ associations, Italian media, Chamber of Commerce, associations and companies) who will gather at the residence of the Italian Ambassador in Caracas.
